In the Lesson, I will briefly describe what HTML actually is.

HTML or Hypertext Markup Language is a modern markup language. Which is used globally to define a website structure by its series of elements. That allows us to design the document on the web.

What Is HTML?

HTML was a widely used open-source modern markup language that was used all over the internet to display the document on the web. It allows us to format the document. It creates the structure layer. HTML has a big community which maintenance by W3C. After learning HTML you can create any static web pages or websites.

Basically, HTML Describes the structure of the web document using its tags and elements. AS example In HTML <p> tag defines a paragraph, which means if you want to write a paragraph you must write it under a opening <p> tag and closing></p> tag.

What Is HTML Stands For?

HTML stands for Hypertext Markup Language.

HyperText means a text that contains another page resource(link). That text is called anchor text, users go from one page to another page using this type of text. The Internet is the collection of billion web pages and they are interconnected by Hyperlinks.

Mark-up language means this is not a programming language simply a mark-up language just for markup web elements like a paragraph, headings, images, lists, etc. This language is unable to create any logical functions, to add logical functions you can use JavaScript or server-side scripting languages.

Sir Tim Berners Lee was the father/inventor of HTML.

Sir Tim Berners Lee works at the nuclear research center CERN in the European country Switzerland in late 1989. He thoughts of an internet-based hypertext system. That the CERN researchers share the documents with each other. Sir Tim wrote the first version of HTML and the first Browser also in late 1989.

But HTML was first publicly available in late 1991 with 18 elements, it was known as “HTML tags” and described 18 elements initial stage. The major version of HTML is HTML 5 was released in 2014. It comes with many changes. But now HTML has 140 tags. And now the latest version of HTML is HTML 5.2 was released in 2017.

In the current year, all are internet-based systems. And HTML is fundamental to the web. So, if you become a web developer then HTML is a must skill for you. It is not hard to learn, it may take 10 to 15 days to learn.

What Are The Uses Of HTML?

  1. All over the Internet every web page, web document, or web application is created with the help of HTML. It can easily create a simple static website using CSS.
  2. And HTML can be easily integrated with any server-side programming language such as PHP or ASP to add dynamic functionality to the web documents.
  3. Not only the server storage, but HTML is also easily accessible locally by your browser. This means you can create your HTML document and save it on your computer memory and access it locally by your Browser.

Defination Of HTML File

The HTML file is a simple text file that is a series of tags and elements with its content. That save in .html or .htm format. HTML can be written on any text editor even notepad can write/edit HTML.

To save an HTML file, first, you have to write your first HTML code. Then go to the editor “File” section and click on “save as”. Input your file name and add the .html extension to the file.

Here are 3 different steps process to view an HTML file on the browser.

  1. Open the browser file window, then click on open file and select the HTML file.
  2. Simple copy the file path and paste it into the browser address bar.
  3. just drag the file and drop it on the browser blank window.

HTML Tags Introduction

HTML tags are predefined keywords that help the browser to understand your code. Using this keyword browser format your content. Otherwise, your browser can’t understand which one is heading, which one is a paragraph, list, table, etc.

If you want to create a paragraph you must write the text between the <p></p> tags (where p represents a paragraph in HTML). Similarly, if you print a heading in the document then place the heading text under the <h1></h1> tag.

This is a mandatory tag for HTML 5 documents. This declared the document an HTML 5 document. That is called the document type declaration. You can learn more about this tag on our doctype declaration tutorial.

This is the root element of an HTML document. The all HTML code must be write under the <html>…</html> tag. The whole HTML document is divided into two sections head and body.

<head> ... </head>

This is an important element of an HTML document. This element contains the invisible part of an HTML document. The <head> tag contains the meta information, stylesheet, JavaScript code, and resources.

<body> ... </body>

The body element contains all the visible parts of a document.

<h1> ... </h1>

The h1 tag just represents a heading of a web page.

<p> ... </p>

The p tag represents a paragraph in HTML.
